How to Diagnose Aortic and Mitral Regurgitation in Older Horses: A Case-Based Approach
نویسنده
چکیده
The identification and interpretation of equine murmurs can be improved. In older horses, the two common degenerative valvular conditions are mitral and aortic regurgitation, which occur with approximate equal frequency. Mitral regurgitation produces a systolic murmur. These are often blowing in character. If the murmur occupies all of systole the pulse wave in a peripheral artery can be palpated at the same time the murmur is ausculted. Aortic regurgitation results in a diastolic murmur; loud aortic regurgitant murmurs usually occupy all of diastole, many contain harmonics and are musical in character. In these cases the peripheral pulse wave is palpated in the murmur free interval. Echocardiographic Assessment of Left Atrial Size and Function in Warmblood Horses: Reference Intervals, Allometric Scaling, and Agreement of Different Echocardiographic Variables
BACKGROUND Echocardiographic assessment of left atrial (LA) size and function in horses is not standardized. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to establish reference intervals for echocardiographic indices of LA size and function in Warmblood horses and to provide proof of concept for allometric scaling of variables and for the clinical use of area-based indices. ANIMALS Thirty-one healt...

ABSTRACT: A consecutive Series of 522 patients (mean age 40.36 years ,female 70.9% ,male 29.1% ) with rheumatic valvular heart disease were studied during a period of seven years ,with particular reference to understanding the prevalence and risk factors of atrial fibrillation (AF) and systemic arterial thromboembolism (SAT). AF was observerd in 165 (31.6%) patients .The frequency of AF were ...

Background and Objective: Cerebrovascular accidents are one of the most common causes of disability and mortality in human population all over the world. Several factors such as age, sex, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and heart diseases are risk factors for stroke. ِDue to high prevalence of cerebrovascular accidents and its related risk factors and particularly heart diseases, we decided to stud...
متن کاملGeneral anesthesia with remifentanil for cesarean section in a parturient with severe mitral and tricuspid regurgitation
Valvular heart lesions have deleterious effects on hemodynamics in parturients during pregnancy. Cesarean section with an opioid-based general anesthesia is used to alleviate the adverse effects. We described a case of a 28-year-old primigravida at 37 weeks’ gestation with a diagnosis of severe mitral regurgitation, tricuspid regurgitation, and pulmonary hypertension in active labor. Cesarean s...

Introduction: Infective endocarditis is well known to produce neurologic complications from septic emboli, which mandates a multidisciplinary approach between neurosurgery and cardiac surgery. However, literature is not clear as to the optimal interval length between neurosurgery and cardiac surgery.Presentation of Cases: The first case involves a 60-year-old woman with significant past medical...
